What a beautiful day! I think we have had the longest winter since the Ice Age. Nice to be able to work in the yard and get ready for spring, take TJ my pup for a walk and everything that goes with nicer weather. Greg Soulje defintely deserves a pat on the back for making this happen!

MULTIPLE BLOG ENTRIES
I apologize for the four exactly the same blog entries for this week's guests. After submitting the entry, a message came up saying that 'the website you are accessing has experienced an unexpected error.' So I tried to make the entry again a few times. The last time I made a submission, the message did not appear. What I did not know until I logged out is that the entries did go through each time.

BARRY GOLDWATER JR.
Taped an interesting conversation with former Congressman Barry Goldwater Jr. today. He was doing some interviews over a few days in the morning, and wanted to be sure to have him on the show. Interesting guy for sure. His father was the outspoken and respected Senator Barry Goldwater. With his childhood high school friend and roommate, former Nixon White House Counsel (and past guest) John Dean, they wrote a great new book on the life and career of Barry Goldwater. Air date to be announced. We discussed his political views, his relationships (good and bad) with Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson, and what it was like for Barry Jr. to grow up with the last name Goldwater.
Had him scheduled to be on the show for an hour, but he called me more than 20 minutes late into what was to be a 40 minute conversation. Right when we started to get into the meat of our conversation, he abruptly said he had to go and that he had other commitments. He said he enjoyed the conversation, but had to go. So despite the fact he called 20 minutes late, we were not able to do the complete 40 minute interview. Frustrating as so much time went into preparation and also the budgeting of questions. We did not get to Barry Goldwater's views on Richard Nixon, Watergate, turning down Gerald Ford's invitation to be his Vice-President, his endorsing the moderate Ford for President over the more conservative Reagan, etc. Too bad...but what can you do? The hazards of interviewing.
Thankfully there have only been a couple of times this has happened. General Wesley Clark was another example of calling late and then abruptly cutting off the interview after an agreed upon time. Both Gen. Clark and Mr. Goldwater, Jr. were fascinating guests though and it was great to have them on the show.

CLINT BLACK
One of my favorite guests ever is country star Clint Black. What a nice guy too! he was terrific on the air with a great sense of humor. He has agreed to be a part of my 1000th show which will take place sometime in the end of May.
Mr. Black invited Justin and I to say hello and see his concert when he played Kirkland Fine Arts Center in Decatur last October. We had a great visit, and even more special was that he put us front row center in the theatre! He'd often come center stage and peform and wink or smile right at us.
At one point he surprised fans by playing drums. He played the 70s Steely Dan hit "Peg" and he was VERY GOOD! After the song was over, he gave a drum stick to a fan and walked right up to Justin and slid the other drum stick right to Justin with a big smile. We are getting that framed with a signed photo for Justin's bedroom wall. Video of the concert was on his website clintblack.com for some time and you could see everyone in the first few rows. That was fun to see.
Because the experience was so much fun and we had a great visit with Mr. Black, we were excited to watch the new CBS reality-competition show HIDDEN TALENTS OF THE STARS. It was to be a multi-week playoff that included Danny Bonaduce, Star Trek's George Takei singing country music, and others. Clint Black did a great job doing stand-up comedy with some mentoring by Garry Shandling. It was fun to watch and Clint Black was voted by viewers to move on to the next round.
The only problem is...I guess Justin and I were the only ones who watched the show! It was abruptly canceled after one airing!!!!!! Too bad. It was a fun show, and we were curious to see Clint Black perform in the semi-finals.
The networks sure don't gives shows much of a chance any more. It is especially frustrating to have competition shows canceled before they are finished. But our hats off to Clint Black! Very funny job as a stand-up! If you have seen one of his concerts, you have seen his sense of humor firsthand.
