Carol Vorel

I never dreamed I'd become a long time resident of east central Illinois when I moved from the Chicago suburbs in 1979 after graduating from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
I expected to work at WDAN-WDNL Radio in Danville for a few years and then move elsewhere. But then I became the Vermilion County Correspondent and later the Assignment Editor for WICD-TV in Champaign and I stayed in the area for six more years. After that, more great newsroom opportunities came my way at WIAI-FM in Danville, at WCIA-TV in Champaign, and here at WDWS-WHMS.
When not in the newsroom, I enjoy volunteer work as a member of the Champaign County Crimestoppers Board of Directors, and the local chapter of the American Red Cross. I'm also a certified Tornado Spotter and an avowed Cubs fan.
I've received awards from the Associated Press for Best Spot News in Television and from the United Press International for Best Radio Feature story.
As News Director at NewsTalk 1400 and LiteRock 97.5, I manage the News Department, anchor morning news, and cover stories as a reporter.
